The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journaliinsts (NUJ), Edo State Council, Mr. Festus Alenkhe has bagged the ‘Beacon of Hope in Africa Award.’
The award was conferred on him by the Youth Coalition for Education in Nigeria (YOCEN). Presenting the award to Alenkhe, the YOCEN Head of Mission, Comrade Yusuf Hassan Abdul said that the award was in recognition of Alenkhe’s contributions for a better society.
According to him “The award, the Beacon of Hope in African is a recognition of your immense contributions toward societal transformation via human capital development, effective services delivery, educational advancement and a build for a better society.”
Receiving the award, Mr. Alenkhe, commended YOCEM for finding him worthy for the honour. He said he was only doing his job as a journalist and that he did not know that his little contributions could be noticed by such a notable body as YOCEN.
On the prevailing economic hardship in the country, Alenkhe appealed to the federal government to look at how it could reduce the tuition fees in the various tertiary institutions so that parents would be able to send their children and wards to higher institution.
He also urged the youths in the country to shun cultism in their various universities and concern themselves with the reason for being sent to school.
