Ahead the 21 September Edo State governorship election, candidate of Labour Party (LP), Olumide Akpata (Esq) has listed education, agriculture, security, health as his priorities when elected as Governor of the state.
Akpata stated this at an interactive session with journalists at the Press Centre of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Benin City, on Thursday, 4 July.
He also used the occasion to present his running mate, Alhaji Yusuf Kadiri to journalists
The LP candidate who admitted that there was suffering and hunger in the land, vowed to priotise the welfare of the people, assuring that all the failed federal roads in the state will be reconstructed.
“We are ready for the election. We are people centric and people focused. We have a programme that will impact the lives of the people. It is clear that things have never been so bad as it is today. Here is where Labour Party will come in”.
On abandoned and uncompleted projects, Akpata pointed out that it is unwise for a serious government to abandon uncompleted projects that will positively impact the lives of the people because the new Governor is not the initiator of the project, assuring that he will complete all viable, uncompleted projects. He also assured of priotising the completion of the Gele-Gele Sea Port project if indeed it is ongoing.
On Local Government autonomy, the LP governorship candidate stated that as an advocate of autonomy for Local Government, he would ensure that the third tier of government under his watch has autonomy. He noted that such autonomy carries responsibilities on the part of the chairmen of the Councils, vowing that they must all reside in their Local Government Areas to give the people at the grassroots the needed development.
