In a matter of days from now the Edo Central Senatorial seat would become vacant and the question on the lips of every one showing concern, is: who steps in as a replacement for the Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo?
This is a multi million dollar question; a puzzle requiring sincerity of purpose, and genuine interest for the socio-economic well being, growth and development of Esanland, beyond myopic and selfish gains, to crack.
Especially against the backdrop that subtle lobbying and manoeuvring by interested politicians; both contenders and pretenders, have begun in earnest.
Therefore presenting the onerous task of sifting those who fit the bill from wanna-bes, by stakeholders; interest groups up to the grassroots, not excluding the opinion leaders who could sway the direction of the tide, in zeroing in on the qualified person.
If collective good would be the bedrock of this task, then definitely it would go beyond the political party line.
Here, all the political parties particularly the front liners; the All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and maybe the Labour Party (LP) are required to put forward their best to be able to win the election for the vacant senatorial position.
But for the APC soon to be the ruling party in Edo State, it behoves on her to ensure all sentiments are put aside to get the right person, who importantly must possess the right qualities which include being a grassroots puller.
A striking quality that no doubt has thrown up the Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo into the State political equation today.
Another quality that should be seriously considered is experience which unarguably; an edge to be able to effectively deliver for the people of the zone at the level of the Upper House of the National Assembly.
From the above postulations, methinks the APC search has been made easy with the presence of Hon. Odianosen Okojie, member, House of Representative representing South East-East/Esan North East federal constituency in the 10th National Assembly.
From available evidence, Hon. Okojie perfectly fits the bill that could not only defeat any other opponent and win the election for the APC, but get the job done for the people of the zone as required.
This is no gain saying; his track record speaks volumes!
Hon. Okojie is a grassroots politician always at home with the people of his constituency, even before entering politics. Hence he was able to get the mandate to the House of Representatives in a landslide.
Like his forebear; Ogbidi Okojie, who was Onojie of Uromi, born 1857 and ruled his people between 1900 and 1944; fought gallantly against British rule in the ancient Benin kingdom, Hon. Odianosen Okojie would fight for the people of the zone; this he is already doing both in and out of the National Assembly.
Above all, driven by the gift of youthfulness and vigour; he is passionate to sustain the Okojie legacy of community service by providing quality representation for the people of Edo Central Senatorial zone of state.
“He who the cap fits, let them wear it” says popular reggae musician; Bob Robert Nesta Marley of blessed memory.
Therefore, as the task of finding a capable replacement for the shoes of the Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo begins, the APC and the people of Edo Central Senatorial zone should look no further; Hon. Odianosen Okojie is the perfect match; the cap perfectly fits him; let him wear it for the collective good of the zone
