The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Benin Branch, has expressed sorrow over expresses its profound sorrow over the death of Comrade Anthony Kaduna Eboigbodin, a distinguished former President of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Edo State, and a former Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Edo State.
Reports indicate that Comrade Eboigbodin allegedly suffered severe health complications following harassment by operatives of the Nigerian Police Force as he attempted to commute around the Ikpoba-Okha local government area of Edo State on the Tuesday, 3 December.
According to a statement signed by Idemudia Iredia Osifo, Esq, Chairman, Nigerian Bar Association, Benin Branch condoles with the family of the fallen Labour leader.
“The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Benin Branch, expresses its profound sorrow and indignation over the unfortunate death of Comrade Anthony Kaduna Eboigbodin, a distinguished former President of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Edo State, and a former Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Edo State.
“Reports indicate that Comrade Eboigbodin allegedly suffered severe health complications following harassment by operatives of the Nigerian Police Force as he attempted to commute around the Ikpoba-Okha local government of Edo State on the 2nd day of December, 2024.
“This was even more pathetic as the officers also fled the scene rather than act as first responders when the complications arose.
“This tragic incident, which has robbed the labor movement and Edo State of a committed advocate for workers’ rights, is a grave reminder of the urgent need for accountability and the preservation of human rights.
“The NBA-Benin conveys its deepest condolences to the family of Comrade Eboigbodin, the labor community, and all who knew him. His passing is a loss to all who value justice, equity, and the welfare of workers in Nigeria”, the statement said.
