Health Centre
Members of the National Association of Seadogs (Pyrates Confraternity), San Titanic Deck, in collaboration with other organisations, on Saturday, 12 April celebrated the World Health Day 2025 at Ukpenu Health Centre in Ekpoma, Edo State. The outreach programme which focused on promoting quality antenatal and newborn care attracted over 150 pregnant women, nurses and healthcare providers.
In a remark the Chairman of San Titanic Deck, Mr. Osunde Owens undefined the importance of best practices during antenatal care, highlighted the consequences of neglecting these practices and advocated for increased funding for maternal healthcare, infrastructure and free antenatal; postnatal care and policies, particularly in rural communities.
Also speaking, the, Event Planner of San Titanic Deck Dr. Jude Obasanmi and Health Educator with Josemaria Escriva Foundation, stressed the imperatives good antenatal care, stressing that safe delivery are achievable through regular healthcare visits, healthy lifestyles and preparedness for labour and delivery.

On his part , Medical Coordinator of the Association, Dr. Noel Igbinosa advised expectant mothers to prepare a birth plan and attend breastfeeding education sessions for a safe and positive birthing experience. He also emphasized the need for spouses (Men/husbands) to provide a supportive environment for their wife during ante and post natal periods.
Highpoint of the event was the distribution of essential antenatal needs, including baby diapers, birthing kits, detergents and baby wipes to all pregnant women present.
The Matron of the centre, Mrs. Gladys Isiwele expressed gratitude to the team for choosing their facility and thanked the Director of Primary Health Care in Esan West LGA, Dr. Aimua Jacob Ehijele for approving the intervention.
The National Association of Seadogs, founded in 1952 by Wole Soyinka and six others, continues to make positive impacts in communities through its various initiatives. At the moment there are over 62 branches scattered across the various continents of the world.
