Winifred Iwenamen Set To Break Guinness World Record in Biking

An Edo born teacher, Miss Winifred Iwenamen, is set to break the Guinness World Record in biking with an ambition to ride a Cross- over Country bike covering a distance of over 500 kilometers in 12 hours nonstop.

Speaking to Journalists on Monday, 14 April at the premises of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Benin City the Edo State capital, the English and Literary Studies graduate from the Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, pointed out that she nurses the ambition to surpass the existing record of 500 kilometers.

According to the Ewatto born bicker from Esan South East local government area of Edo State, Winnifred told journalists that the race is set to take place on the 26 day of April 2025 in a dedicated and approved race track in Evbobanosa, after Light House Polytechnic along Benin- Agbor Road in Benin City Edo State capital.

She said that it was her love for riding bikes that propelled her to venture the exercise.

According to her, “I love riding bikes and it is an inspiration from God to do this and I decided to explore it. Initially, I wanted to ride from Benin City to Lagos but the authorities of the Guinness World Record did not approve of the use of commercial routes , so, I opted for the dedicated motor race track at Evbobanosa which was approved.

” I ride bike daily but the one designated for the race is motor cross bike, like the ones used in desert areas and the Guinness World Record wants to see if I can break the existing 500 kilometers record in 12 hours.

” There is an existing record of 500 kilometers and my target is to surpass the existing record”.

Winifred who said she has been riding bikes well over 10 years now pointed out however that this would be the first time she is doing a major event like this adding that she has been riding bikes on personal bases adding that she has seriously trained and prepared for the event.

According to her, part of the preparations for the event would include an additional bike in case of the event of break down, vulcaniser, a mechanic, an ambulance, surveyors who would take accurate measurements of the kilometers covered , two witnesses who would be security personnel. She also pointed out that there would be a light refreshment for the spectators who are expected to witness the event covering a twelve hour period.

She then appealed to well meaning and public spirited individuals and corporate bodies to come to her aid in the provision of these materials and financial resources to pay honorarium to the professionals that will be on ground as required by the authorities of Guinness World Record.

Winifred who graduated in 2012 is currently a teacher at Saint Michael College, Benin/Asaba Express Way, Ikhueniro, Benin City, Edo State.
