NUJ to Give Posthumous Award to Bankole Balogun, Pioneer GM BBS

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Edo State Council is set to present a Posthumous award to the pioneer General Manager of Bendel Broadcasting Service (BBS), the Late Mr Bankole Balogun.

The Award organisers describe Late Mr Bankole Balogun as a Brodcaster who contributed to the development of the journalism profession through Bendel Broadcasting Service, noting that his commitment to the Broadcast industry remain a great record in the history of the profession.

In a statement signed by the chairman of the Edo State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Festus Alenkhe and the Secretary, Andy Egbon said Late Bankole Balogun dedicated his time and energy to researching and breaking news stories in the then BBS.

His son, Oladele Bankole Balogun (Esq) who is the Executive Chairman of the Edo State lnternal Revenue Service is expected to represent the Balogun family of Igarra to receive the posthumous award.

The event is scheduled for Sunday 11th May, 2025 at the Press Centre in Benin City beginning from 4 pm.
Top government functionaries and array of journalists drawn from the various media organisations in Edo State and across the country are expected to grace the award ceremony.

The Edo State owned Edo Broadcasting Service EBS and the Delta State owned Delta Broadcasting Service DBS rose from Bendel Broadcasting Service after the creation of Edo and Delta States in 1991 which was alogun.
