A Commissioner in the Edo State Local Government Service Commission and Acting Chairman of the Commission, Evangelist Francis Akhigbe has called on Edo people to continue to support the state Governor, Distinguished Senator Monday Okpebholo to enable him nurture to fruition all the projects he has embarked on which he said are visible to all that will elevate the livelihood of the people.
Evangelist Akhigbe made the call while receiving the award of Ambassador of Peace confered on him by the Universal Peace Federation, in Benin City on Thursday, 5 June.
While assuring that peace will rein in Edo State, Akhigbe pointed out that the structures the Governor is putting in place will engender peace, adding that the projects are already raising the hope of the people and thanked the Edo State chapter of Universal Peace Foundation for the recognition.
“There will be peace in Edo State, what the State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo is putting on ground is making hope rise in Edo State and will usher in peace to the state. Those of us who are having some resentment regarding what he is doing, please be patient, because as far as your eyes can see what he’s putting on ground, shows that there will be light at the end of the tunnel and you’ll have cause to thank God for gifting us a Governor like Okpebholo”.

In his remarks, the Coordinator of the Edo State chapter of Universal Peace Foundation, Osasu Usenbor pointed out that the essence of the award is to reward and encourage those identified to be promoting peace, who are using their endowments to initiate programmes that will enhance peace in the various communities.
“The essence of the award is for the recipients to continue those good things geared towards societal development, as we seek for peace, we’ve to encourage those who have been promoting peace to continue to do so. These people in their respective positions have contributed to the development of their people and communities. The society is better when all hands are on deck in the resolution of issues confronting the society just as these awardees are doing in their areas. These personalities care for other people, they live for the sake of others and they were identified because of these qualities”, Usenbor noted.
In a lecture which preceeded the award and titled, “Living for the Sake of Others”, by a community leader and religious scholar, Bright Yadhunatha appealed to look live for the sake of others, pointing out that all the religious denominations in their holy scriptures admonishes man to live for the sake of others.
He urged the people to “Look upon the person you love the most and treat others with that same amount of love, when dealing with the strong, never undermine the weak, see the people you live with as the people you are going to live together; give up I and mine consciousness and develop we and our consciousness, be the ladder that others use to climb and grow; so, be kind, be compassionate, be generous, be supportive, be sympathetic, keep loving.”
