As preparations continue for the 15th anniversary remembrance of Deaconess Mrs. Selia Ukponmwan (née Giwa-Osagie), the Ukponmwan and Giwa-Osagie families say her legacy remains a daily source of strength and guidance.
Speaking as the family representative, Dr. Osahon Ukponmwan described the anniversary as a deeply reflective moment filled with gratitude rather than sorrow.
“It has been fifteen years, yet Mama’s presence is still felt in our lives every single day,” he said. “Her prayers, counsel and quiet strength remain our anchor as a family.”
Dr. Ukponmwan explained that Mama Selia was a woman of few words but strong convictions, whose life spoke louder than speeches. Her devotion to God, discipline and compassion, he said, laid a solid foundation that continues to guide family decisions and relationships.
He recalled her deep commitment to church activities, prayer and moral upbringing, noting that her home was a place of peace, correction and encouragement. According to him, Mama Selia believed strongly in integrity and service, values she consistently practised.
The family representative said the remembrance is also an opportunity to pass on Mama Selia’s values to younger family members, encouraging them to uphold faith, unity and respect in a rapidly changing world.
Dr. Ukponmwan also thanked friends, neighbours and church members who have continued to honour Mama Selia’s memory over the years. He said their support has been a source of comfort and encouragement to the family.
According to him, the 15th anniversary is a celebration of a fulfilled life and a reminder that true legacy is built on faith, love and service to others.
