Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo has expressed concerns over plans by the opposition People’s Democratic Party in the state to manipulate the ongoing election petition at the Edo State Governorship Election Tribunal adding that the actions include witness intimidation, sponsorship of thugs, peddling of fake news among others.

In a statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Fred Itua called on law enforcement agencies and the judiciary to investigate the concerns, noting that “Edo people have given Governor Monday Okpebholo a resounding mandate, and no amount of intimidation, falsehoods, media propaganda, and paid thugs can change God’s mandate for Edo people”.

“The Executive Governor of Edo State, Senator Monday Okpebholo, is deeply concerned and appalled by recent reports of attempts by the depleted opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to manipulate the ongoing case at the Tribunal.

“These actions, which include witness intimidation, sponsorship of thugs, peddling of fake news, and a premature declaration of victory, are an affront to the very foundation of our justice system.

“The Judiciary is the cornerstone of our democracy, and its integrity must be upheld at all costs. Any attempt to interfere with the impartial administration of justice in the ongoing Tribunal case is not only unacceptable but also a grave threat to the rule of law and the well-being of our citizens.

“Governor Okpebholo urges the relevant authorities, including the Judiciary, law enforcement agencies, and other State actors, to thoroughly investigate these serious allegations and take swift and decisive action against those responsible.

“The people of Edo State deserve a Tribunal process that is fair, transparent, and accountable. Governor Okpebholo will not tolerate any actions that undermine the integrity of the Tribunal”.
