In the Court of Justice, both the parties know the truth, it is the Judge who is on trial – Justice J R Midha of Delhi High Court farewell speech, july 10, 2021.

That statement by the Honourable Justice J R Midha of the Delhi High Court in India while delivering his farewell speech on July 10, 2021 aptly sum up the gathering storm ahead the Edo Central Senatorial bye-election coming up any moment from now. This gathering storm is threatening the unity of Esanland as those who think they own the World as a result of their present endowments are mobilising to jettison the well structured Ebakota Accord in the rotation of the Senatorial seat in Esanland.

The most surprising aspect of this aberration these men of means are trying to force down the throat of Esan people is their attempt to stand logic on its head by saying that the vacant Edo Central Senatorial seat should go back to one of the Local Government Areas that have earlier benefited from Ebakota Accord.

We urge these men of influence to emulate what the late Admiral Augustus Aikhomu, Chief Anthony Anenih and Professor Ambrose Alli stood for.

When Alli was Governor, he did not project any of his family members for appointment or elective office, even when he had what it takes to so do.

At a point in this present democratic dispensation, Chief Anthony Anenih was the most powerful person in Nigeria, save the President and Commander in-Chief. He too did not use his humongous wealth and influence to rail road his children or brothers and sisters into elective office or appointive position; rather he used his influence to empower people across the nooks and crannies of Esanland.

When Admiral Augustus Aikhomu was the Vice-President, he used his influence to create new Local Government Areas in Esanland and abolished the nomenclature that tend to divide Esanland and its people by christening the new Local Government Areas after Esan.

The duo of Aikhomu and Anenih also rallied other Esan leaders to institutionalise the Ebakota Accord to rotate elective political office in Esanland.

Ordinarily, by Ebakota Accord, the next Senator to represent Edo Central Senatorial District should come from Esan North-East Local Government Area.

We are aware that some of the major political parties have already zoned the slot to Esan North-East Local Government Area. This is a welcome development.

Although Odi Okojie is the only aspirant from Esan North-East Local Government Area, on the platform of the All Progressives Congress APC, we also urge them to zone the slot to the area for equity, just as Edo people ceded the governorship position to Esanland.

Support, nominate and vote Hon Odi Okojie for Senate, Edo Central Senatorial District.
