Mr. Emmanuel Eguare, Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon and Clinical Director at NAAS General Hospital, Ireland, on Tuesday donated a variety of medical equipment and consumables to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH).
Mr. Eguare, a distinguished Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), disclosed that the donation aims to ease some of the challenges faced by doctors due to the limited availability of essential medical supplies.
During the presentation, Mr. Eguare commended medical experts at UBTH for their steadfast commitment and resilience, recognizing their continued successes in achieving noteworthy results despite existing limitations.
Mr. Eguare pledged his sustained support to UBTH, saying that , “this donation marks the first of many similar gestures to come.
“Use the donated items to the very best for patients to benefit maximally.
“The hospital is close to my heart .
This is the very beginning of my collaboration. We can do a lot together. We need to embrace Internet and virtual platforms to boost our partnership. “he said.
Receiving the items on behalf of the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Idia Nibokun Ize-Iyamu, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Prof. Stanley Okugbo expressed appreciation to the donor for his generosity and exceptional dedication to supporting UBTH’s core mission.
Also present at the event were medical professionals, including Prof. Clement Osime, Consultant Surgical Oncologist, and Dr. Irowa Omorodion, Consultant General Surgeon.
The comprehensive inventory of donated medical supplies include: Laparoscopic consumables (Scratch Pads), Circular Staplers, Auto Suture Clamps, Laryngeal Masks (Airways), Laparoscopic Graspers, Armoured Endotracheal Tubes, PDS Sutures, Biopsy Punches, High Concentration Masks, Scalpels, T.E.D. Stockings, Arterial Cannulas, Blood Pressure Monitoring Kits with Accessories, Proctoscopes, Sigmoidoscopes, Suction Tubes, Engine Tubes, Drainage Catheters, Transchosomic Catheters, Mini Tracheotomy Sets, Steam Blades, Needle Holders, Fibre Plaster, Laparoscopic Caps and Mesh (various sizes and brands).
