Authorities of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma have dismissed rumours of insecurity and a possible shutdown of the institution, describing them as the handiwork of “mischief makers.”
In a press statement issued by the University and signed by Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, Head of Information, Protocol and Public Relations; the management reassured students, parents and the public that the campus “remains safe and fully operational,” despite recent security concerns reported in parts of Ekpoma community.
The statement noted that there has been no disruption to academic activities, stressing that “students are present on campus, lectures are ongoing, and normal university life continues without interruption.”
Management also condemned the circulation of a purported memo allegedly issued by the National Association of Ika Students, which called for the closure or evacuation of the university. The institution described the document as “false, misleading, and the handiwork of mischief makers seeking to create unnecessary panic and destabilize the academic environment.”
According to the statement, the legitimate leadership of the association has distanced itself from the memo and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace.
The university further commended the Edo State Government for its swift intervention in addressing security concerns in Ekpoma, host community. “Enhanced security measures have been deployed, and relevant agencies are actively working to ensure the safety of residents and students alike,” the statement said, adding that the efforts have “significantly stabilized the situation and restored public confidence.”
Internally, the institution said it has taken additional steps to secure the campus, including increased surveillance and reinforced patrols, in collaboration with security agencies.
While urging the students to remain calm and avoid spreading unverified information, the statement called on members of the university community to go about their activities without fear.
“Students are therefore urged to remain calm, vigilant, and focused on their academic pursuits. They are advised to disregard unverified information and rely only on official communication channels. The University remains committed to providing a secure and conducive learning environment, and we encourage everyone to go about their activities without fear.”
