The Management Committee of Edo State Consumer Protection Committee on Monday granted a two week extension to the representatives of United Beverages Dealers Association and Edo State Sachet Alcohol Beverages Distributors Association to dispose off sachet gin in their possession.
The dealers were expected to return all sachet gin products in their custody to their manufacturers
on or before 20th September, 2026 .
Newscurve24 recalls that the Edo State Consumer Protection Committee, CPC, has earlier given seven days of ultimatum to the dealers to ensure that all the products were removed from the market by 7th of September 2026.
The representatives had jointly requested an extension from 7th September to 30th December, 2026 to enable them sell off existing stock of sachet gin in their custody, citing various factors.
Dealers on Monday head a meeting with the committee to plead for extension of time to enable them to dispose of their products.
The committee chairman, Osaro Iyamu speaking with journalists in his office after the elaborate meeting with the dealers said,
“representatives jointly requested an extension from 7th September to 30th December, 2026 to enable them sell off existing stock of sachet gin in their custody, citing various factors”.
Iyamu stated that, “After extensive deliberation and consultations, the Management Committee rules that, the Committee remains committed to protecting the rights of consumers and promoting product standards in line with NAFDAC directives.”
Also , the appeal for extension is PARTIALLY GRANTED. Dealers are given a grace period from 7th September to 20th September, 2026 to return all sachet gin products in their custody to their manufacturers.
Iyamu stated further that, within this grace period, no dealer or individual is permitted to resell sachet gin products in their custody. Products must only be returned to Producers.
He warned that, no person or group is permitted to harass dealers of sachet gin within the approved extension period, adding that full-scale enforcement and compliance operations will commence on 21st September, 2026 across the 18 LGAs of Edo State.
The Committee urged all dealers to take advantage of this window to comply. “Consumer safety remains our priority, protecting Consumers, Building Trust and Promoting Standards,” he concluded.
