A human activist and environmentalist, Rev. David Ugolor has appealed to the out going Governor of Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki to share his experiences in governance over the last eight years with the incoming Governor and his team and the generality of Edo people, noting that is good for to learn from their leaders.
Ugolor who is the Executive Director of Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) stated this in an open letter to Governor Obaseki pointed out that the ongoing Governor’s tenure has been marked by achievements and challenges and urged him to share with Edo people what went right and what went wrong, noting that the people and the incoming administration will learn from such experiences.
The letter reads in part, “I write to you not only as a concerned citizen of Edo State but also as someone who believes in the power of leadership that is both reflective and honest.
“Your time in office has been marked by significant achievements as well as challenges. As you prepare for the handover, I encourage you to take a moment to reflect on your journey. It is essential to acknowledge that leadership is a continuous learning process, and owning up to both successes and mistakes can be invaluable for those who will follow in your footsteps.
“Being transparent about what went right and what went wrong during your administration will serve as an important lesson for the next governor. It will not only help them navigate the complexities of governance but will also foster a culture of accountability and honesty within our political landscape.
“I urge you to communicate openly with the people of Edo State. Share your insights and experiences, and explain the challenges you faced and the decisions you made. This openness will help build trust and encourage the next leader to approach governance with a clearer understanding of our state’s needs.
“Moreover, as you hand over the reins, consider offering your support and guidance to your successor. Encourage them to learn from your experiences, both positive and negative. This collaborative spirit can pave the way for a more united and progressive Edo State.
“I hope you will embrace the opportunity to share your journey with Edo people. Your honesty and willingness to learn from your tenure can inspire not only the next governor but also all of us who are committed to the progress of our beloved state.
“Thank you for your service, and I wish you the best in your future endeavors”.
