‎The Managing Director of the Edo State Waste Management Board, Amb. Dr. Lucky Enehita-Inegbenehi, has said the Board has engaged an additional 500 street sweepers to strengthen sanitation efforts across the state as part of the “Clean Edo” initiative.

‎Dr. Enehita-Inegbenehi disclosed this while presenting the Board’s achievements at the Ministry of Information and Strategy’s bi-monthly press briefing in Benin City.

‎The briefing was organized to update the public on the performance of the Senator Monday Okpebholo administration.

‎He further disclosed that the Board has procured modern waste management equipment to resolve operational challenges affecting dumpsites in the 18 Local Government Areas of the state. According to him, the new equipment will enhance waste collection and disposal efficiency.

‎The Managing Director reaffirmed that the “Show Your Waste Receipt” initiative remains in force. He urged residents and business owners to engage only government-accredited waste disposal operators.

‎He explained that the enforcement exercise is intended to improve compliance with environmental regulations, encourage proper waste disposal practices, and raise public awareness on the importance of maintaining a clean environment.

‎Earlier, the Commissioner for Environment and Sustainability, Hon. Nosa Adams, who supervises the Waste Management Board, said Benin City generates more than 4,000 tonnes of waste daily — a challenge the Ministry is addressing in partnership with the Edo State Waste Management Board.

‎He disclosed that the state currently operates five dumpsites, one of which is equipped with a recycling plant to support sustainable waste disposal and environmental protection efforts.
