The Executive Director of the African Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ), Rev. David Ugolor has been elected as Co-Chair of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption (UNCAC) Coalition by the board of the global anti-corruption coalition.

The board also elected Gillian Dell, an honorary member, a Co-Chair to serve along with Ugolor.

The election which came up recently in Geneva, Switzerland also saw the election of Naomi Roht-Arriaza (individual member) and Wajdi Balloumi (I Watch Organization, Tunisia) as Vice Chairs of the Coalition; while Wana Alamsyah (Indonesia Corruption Watch) will serve as Treasurer and Mukhtar Ahmad Ali (Centre for Peace and Development Initiatives – CPDI, Pakistan) will serve as Secretary.

In his post election remark, Managing Director of the UNCAC Coalition, Mathias Huter, said he is looking forward to a robust working relationship with the elected officials.

“I congratulate the board leadership on their election and very much look forward to working with them. I thank them for their leadership, their guidance and their commitment to advancing the mission of our global civil society anti-corruption community”.

For the past year, Gillian Dell has served as Chair of the Coalition; David Ugolor and Samantha Feinstein (Government Accountability Project), whose second term on the board recently concluded, served as Vice-Chairs. Andrii Borovyk (TI Ukraine) served as Treasurer.

David Ugolor has been in the forefront fighting corruption in his belief that corruption impedes the enthronement of an egalitarian society, is the root of economic deprivation, hunger, poverty and other economic woes in Africa.
